TAFE Work Placement

8th October 2012

9.30am
So the big day is here.. Work Placement! 2 weeks of putting into action the skills and theory we've learnt at TAFE for the Certificate III in Aged Care/HACC.

I have to say I am a little bit excited and a whole lot nervous. I am worried (probably like every other student who's on placement today), as to whether or not I'll be able to handle and cope with looking after the residents at the centre I am going to. Of course as always I'll give it 110% but it is still extremely scary as to whether I'll be efficient and do the work correctly or if my emotions my get the best of me and I become a blubbering lunatic unable to complete simple tasks and have to leave.

9.00pm
So my day at placement was kind of boring, it was an induction to the facility. There are 4 of us doing placement, 3 Wodonga students and an person doing the aged care course through a job network provider.

We all start tomorrow at 6.30am and won't finish until 3.00pm, myself and another student have been put into the high-care section for 1 week and the other student and job seeker have been placed into the hostel part for the week. I have asked if I could do a night time shift so I can at least experience one. We have been told it's our responsibility to chase up the staff to mark off our work books and if we miss something then that's just tough luck.

I am looking forward to actually getting in and doing something physical and interacting with some residents even though they all are suffering from dementia.
